Putin Lauds Trump As 'Intelligent and Experienced’ As He Compares Outgoing U.S. President Biden to The Newly Elected President

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently praised President-elect Donald Trump as "intelligent" and "experienced," while expressing concerns about Trump's safety following two assassination attempts earlier this year.

Speaking to reporters in Kazakhstan after a summit, Putin noted that relations between Moscow and Washington could improve once Trump assumes office in January.

He remarked, "As far as I can imagine, the newly elected president is an intelligent and already quite experienced person. I think he will find a solution."

Putin's comments indicate a potential shift in tone from the Kremlin compared to its current strained relations with the Biden administration, especially as the U.S. continues to bolster Ukraine's weaponry supply.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles inside Russia, prompting Russia to warn the U.S. against what it termed a "spiral of escalation."

The Russian president also expressed surprise at the criticism directed towards Trump's family by political opponents, describing such behavior as "revolting" and noting that even "bandits" in Russia would not act in such a manner. Additionally, Putin highlighted the "absolutely uncivilized methods" used against Trump, including multiple assassination attempts.

In July, Trump was shot in the ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in one death and two injuries among attendees. The shooter was killed on the scene. Another attempt on Trump's life occurred in September while he was golfing in Florida, leading to the arrest of a suspect who pleaded not guilty to federal charges.

Despite these challenges, Trump has pledged to end the war in Ukraine "within 24 hours," though he has provided few specifics on how he plans to achieve this. The president-elect has faced scrutiny for his amicable stance towards Putin, whom he previously referred to as a "genius" following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The two leaders have reportedly communicated at least seven times since Trump left office in January 2021.
