The perennial champions of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reignited their interest in Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. This renewed pursuit comes as PSG seeks to bolster their attacking options following a challenging first half of the 2024/25 season.
The French giants are reportedly keen on addressing their center-forward shortcomings, especially after failing to secure a new striker during the summer transfer window.
Osimhen's journey has been quite eventful. After an impressive stint with Lille, he moved to Napoli, where his performances caught the attention of top European clubs.
However, despite being one of the frontrunners to sign him, PSG refrained from meeting Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis' hefty €100 million asking price during the summer. Consequently, Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan in September 2024.
At Galatasaray, Osimhen has continued to showcase his prowess, scoring ten goals and providing five assists in just 13 appearances across all competitions. His contributions have been pivotal for the Turkish side, although they remain uncertain about retaining him beyond the current season due to a release clause that could see him leave in January.
Reports indicate that PSG's interest in Osimhen is driven by their need to find a reliable goal-scorer. The departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid left a significant void in their attack, and the current strikers, Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani, have struggled to fill that gap. As a result, PSG's management, led by director Luis Campos, is exploring options to bring Osimhen to Paris.
However, acquiring Osimhen will not be straightforward. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, any club interested in signing the Nigerian forward in January would need to pay a double release clause.
This includes a €75 million fee to Napoli and an additional €6 million compensation to Galatasaray. Despite these financial hurdles, PSG remains determined to pursue Osimhen, viewing him as an ideal solution to their scoring woes.
The potential transfer has sparked considerable speculation and excitement among fans and pundits alike. Osimhen's dynamic playing style, characterized by his speed, strength, and clinical finishing, makes him a valuable asset for any team. His ability to create opportunities and score goals consistently has established him as one of Europe's most sought-after strikers.
In addition to PSG, other Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea have also shown interest in Osimhen. However, PSG's longstanding admiration for the player, coupled with their pressing need for a top-tier striker, positions them as strong contenders in the race for his signature.
