President Bola Tinubu returns to Nigeria after co-chairing the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) alongside South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
This high-level meeting, held in South Africa, shows the ongoing diplomatic and economic collaboration between the two nations.
Upon his arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 9:10 pm on December 5, 2024, President Tinubu was warmly received by prominent figures including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
The welcoming party also included Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Peter Opara, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT.
The BNC session featured comprehensive discussions across eight working groups, each focusing on areas of mutual interest such as political consultations, consular and migration issues, banking and finance, defense and security, manufacturing, social sector, mines and energy, and trade and investments.
These deliberations resulted in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding and agreements, further solidifying the partnership between Nigeria and South Africa.
Established in 1999, the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission aims to enhance bilateral relations and foster cooperation between the two countries.
This recent session not only addressed strategic partnerships but also highlighted key topics like Nigeria's lithium resources and South Africa's support for Nigeria's bid for G20 membership.
