President Tinubu asks Senate to Confirm Lieutenant General Oluyede as Chief of Army Staff

President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.

This request follows Oluyede's appointment as Acting Chief on October 30, after the unfortunate passing of his predecessor, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on November 5. President Tinubu's appeal to the Senate is grounded in constitutional and legislative mandates, specifically citing Section 218(2) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed confidence in Oluyede's "leadership qualities, professional integrity, and experience," which he believes are essential for ensuring national security and stability.

Oluyede, a distinguished member of the 39th Regular Course, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992 and ascended to the rank of Major-General in September 2020. His extensive military career includes serving as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, based in Jaji, Kaduna.

This nomination highlights the administration's commitment to appointing experienced and capable leaders to secure Nigeria's defense infrastructure.
