Power Restored in Northern Nigeria as TCN Overcomes Grid Challenges

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored power to substantial parts of Northern Nigeria.

This achievement follows the repair of critical transmission lines that had been out of service due to recent challenges.

The restoration efforts focused on the 330-kilovolt Ugwuaji-Makurdi-Jos transmission line 2, which was fixed and energized around 11:50 am on Thursday.

This comes after the earlier restoration of the 330 kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1, which had brought power back to Bauchi and Gombe States.

Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for TCN, stated, "Expectedly, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola Distribution Companies can now pick up more loads for onward distribution to customers within their franchise areas."

This means that both transmission lines are now operational, leading to a substantial improvement in power supply to the North East and North West regions.

The restoration is particularly noteworthy given the backdrop of frequent national grid failures and vandalism incidents that have plagued TCN facilities in recent months.

Despite these challenges, TCN's efforts underscore its commitment to enhancing electricity infrastructure across the region.

"We appreciate the patience and understanding of electricity customers in the Northern axis who were affected by the incident," added Mbah, highlighting the company's dedication to addressing the needs of its consumers.
