The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has addressed allegations concerning the truck-out of three-year-old petroleum products from the Port Harcourt Refinery.
Timothy Mgbere, Secretary of the Alesa community stakeholders, had claimed that the refinery was not fully operational and that the products being distributed were old stock.
In response, NNPC Ltd clarified that these assertions were unfounded and demonstrated a lack of understanding of the refinery's operations.
NNPC Ltd emphasized that the Port Harcourt Refinery, which recently resumed operations after extensive rehabilitation, is currently producing at 90% throughput.
This translates to the production of straight-run gasoline (naptha) blended into 1.4 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), along with other products like diesel and kerosene.
The company also highlighted that the old and new Port Harcourt refineries have been integrated, sharing common utilities such as power and storage tanks, allowing for efficient product load-out.
The controversy arose when Mgbere alleged that only six trucks of petroleum products were loaded on a particular day, contrary to NNPC's statement that 200 trucks would be dispatched daily. However, NNPC Ltd dismissed these claims, urging the public to disregard misinformation and affirming the refinery's operational status.
