Nigeria's Presidency announced a significant milestone in the country's energy sector: the commencement of operations at the government-owned Port Harcourt Refinery.
This development marks a pivotal step in Nigeria's efforts to enhance domestic energy production and address longstanding regional concerns.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare, "200 trucks are expected to load products daily from the refinery, renewing the hopes of Nigeria."
This announcement comes as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) confirmed that the refinery has begun processing crude oil.
The Port Harcourt Refinery consists of two wings, with the Old Refinery now operational and boasting an installed production capacity of 60,000 barrels per day.
This progress is particularly noteworthy given the backdrop of previous unfulfilled promises by the NNPCL, which have drawn criticism from various quarters, including Niger Delta youths.
