At the 59th annual Bankers Dinner of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Lagos, Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, made a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians, particularly the youth, to reconsider emigrating from the country.
His message, "Please, don’t japa, it’s not a good idea," resonated with the audience as he outlined the potential pitfalls of leaving Nigeria at this critical juncture.
Cardoso cautioned against selling assets at undervalued prices, warning that "predators, who are outside looking for bargains, will come and take it and pocket it."
He emphasized that such actions could lead to foreign entities profiting from Nigeria's eventual economic recovery, leaving those who sold their assets at a disadvantage.
The governor highlighted the importance of being "part of the solution" to Nigeria's challenges, urging citizens to engage actively in the nation's development.
He pointed out that despite the severe impact of recent reforms, these measures are designed to address current challenges and secure future opportunities. "Opportunities abound in the market today," Cardoso noted, adding that there is interest in Nigeria from both domestic and international stakeholders.
