A devastating plane crash occurred in Gramado, a renowned tourist destination in southern Brazil.
The incident involved a Piper Cheyenne 400 turboprop aircraft that had departed from Canela, another tourist town in the Rio Grande do Sul region. Tragically, the plane crashed into a commercial area of Gramado, causing significant damage to an inn and a furniture store.
Authorities have confirmed that at least nine people lost their lives in the crash, with no survivors reported from the aircraft. Cleber dos Santos Lima, director of the Interior Police Department of the state civil police, stated, "There are nine deaths confirmed by the civil defense, and there are no survivors of the plane."
While the exact number of passengers and crew on board remains unconfirmed, initial reports suggested that the plane was carrying ten individuals.
The crash also resulted in at least 15 people being hospitalized, primarily due to smoke inhalation from the fire that ensued following the impact.
This tragic event has cast a shadow over Gramado, especially during the Christmas season when the city experiences a significant influx of visitors.
