The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has vehemently criticized what it describes as a "sponsored attack" on one of its founding members, former Governor Sule Lamido.
The controversy centers around an article allegedly linked to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, which accuses Lamido of being part of a rebellion against the PDP in 2014.
Muhammad Mago, a prominent PDP leader in Jigawa, condemned the article, calling it a "blatant misrepresentation of facts" and a "malicious attempt to tarnish Dr. Sule Lamido’s reputation." He attributed this alleged smear campaign to Wike, accusing him of attempting to destabilize the party.
Mago further argued that Wike's actions reflect a pattern of "Draconian politics" and disloyalty, noting that Wike has seemingly shifted allegiance by accepting a ministerial role with the APC.
Defending Lamido's legacy, Mago highlighted his significant contributions to the PDP and the nation, stating, "Dr. Lamido is hailed as a true nationalist and political icon." He emphasized Lamido's past roles, including serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Olusegun Obasanjo and as Governor of Jigawa State from 2007 to 2015.
Mago assured that Lamido remains committed to national interests over personal gains, maintaining his respected status as a leader.
The PDP also dismissed claims that Lamido imposed his son, Mustapha, as the PDP candidate in the last gubernatorial election.
Mago clarified that Mustapha earned the nomination through merit and rigorous campaigning.
The party urged the public to disregard the "malicious article" and recognize Lamido’s unwavering dedication to the PDP and national progress.
