Paralympic Champion Morteza Mehrzad Forced to Sleep on Floor Due to Lack of Suitable Bed in Paris

Esther

At the Paralympics in Paris, Iran's Morteza Mehrzad, the world's second-tallest man, has been forced to sleep on the floor due to the lack of a suitable bed in the athletes' village.

Standing at an impressive 8ft 1in, Mehrzad was born with acromegaly, a rare medical condition that causes excessive growth. Mehrzad, a two-time Paralympic champion in sitting volleyball, is aiming for his third gold medal in the French capital.

Despite the challenging accommodations, he remains focused on his goal. Iran's head coach, Hadi Rezaei, expressed his disappointment over the situation, stating, "In Tokyo, yes, they made a special bed, but unfortunately not here. He's going to lie on the floor." Rezaei emphasized Mehrzad's determination, saying, "It doesn't matter for him whether he will lay on the floor or he's not going to have enough to eat.

In any way, he has the mind to become a champion. Morteza can be considered the best player on our team."
