The Nigerian military has reported remarkable achievements in its counter-terrorism operations over the past 11 months.
According to the Defence Headquarters, troops have successfully neutralized 8,034 terrorists and arrested 11,623 suspects across various regions of the country.
This announcement was made by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press briefing in Abuja.
"The military has been on high alert, maintaining an increased state of readiness to protect our nation from terrorist aggression and insecurity," stated Maj.-Gen. Buba.
The operations spanned five active theatres, including the North East, North Central, North West, and South East, where troops have been actively engaged in combating threats.
The efforts have not only led to the neutralization of terrorists but also resulted in the rescue of 6,376 kidnapped hostages.
In addition, the military has recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including 4,053 AK47 rifles and 1,123 locally fabricated guns, alongside 211,459 rounds of ammunition.
"Our troops have denied oil thieves an estimated N57 billion by recovering 53.1 million litres of stolen crude oil," Buba added, highlighting the economic impact of their operations.
In the North East alone, Operation Hadin Kai saw the neutralization of 2,918 terrorists and the surrender of 15,950 Boko Haram/ISWAP combatants and their families.
