Osun APC Applauds Federal Government's Decision to Suspend Airport Project

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed strong approval of the Federal Government's recent decision to halt the MKO Abiola International Airport project.

This development comes amid ongoing tensions and public outcry over the proposed relocation of the airport from Ido-Osun to Ede South, a move initiated by the current state administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development announced on Tuesday that it would suspend the turning of the sod for the new airport site in Ede, citing unresolved issues as the primary reason for this decision.

In response, Kola Olabisi, the Director of Media and Information for Osun APC, issued a statement on Wednesday commending the federal intervention. He described the relocation attempt as "executive recklessness" and accused Governor Adeleke of engaging in favoritism and nepotism.

"The unpopular relocation bid of the airport by the governor to his town has always been attracting negative comments from within and outside the shores of this country," Olabisi stated.

He further criticized the governor's actions as an "act of executive recklessness and oppression," which have led to significant unrest in the Ido-Osun community.

Residents of Ido-Osun have been actively protesting against the state government's decision, highlighting the widespread dissatisfaction with the relocation plan.

The APC's statement emphasized that the Federal Government's timely intervention was crucial in preventing further financial mismanagement and alleviating the heightened tensions across the state.

"This bungled airport relocation saga has, to a large extent, exposed the administration of Governor Adeleke as deviously lacking in planning but prioritizing the running of government by impulse," Olabisi added, showing the party's view that the current administration's approach has caused considerable harm to the state's governance and economic stability.
