OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Pro Subscription Service for $200 per Month

OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Pro, a premium subscription service priced at $200 per month. This new offering aims to provide users with expanded access to some of the most advanced AI models and tools available today.

The announcement was made during a livestreamed event on December 5, 2024, where OpenAI detailed the features and benefits of the ChatGPT Pro plan. The subscription includes unlimited access to OpenAI's smartest model, OpenAI o1, along with o1-mini, GPT-4o and Advanced Voice capabilities. Additionally, subscribers will benefit from the o1 pro mode, which utilizes more computational power to deliver superior answers to complex queries.

"ChatGPT Pro is designed for researchers, engineers, and professionals who rely on research-grade intelligence daily," an OpenAI spokesperson stated. "This plan not only accelerates productivity but also keeps users at the forefront of AI advancements."

The introduction of ChatGPT Pro is part of OpenAI's broader strategy to broaden the usage of frontier AI technologies. The company plans to continually enhance the Pro plan by adding more compute-intensive productivity features over time.

To further support innovation in fields that benefit humanity, OpenAI is awarding ten grants of ChatGPT Pro to medical researchers at leading institutions in the United States. Among the recipients are Catherine Brownstein, MPH, PhD, from Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School and Justin Reese, PhD, from Berkeley Lab.
