The estate of the late American football icon O.J. Simpson is set to auction off his collection of X-rated magazines in an effort to settle his substantial debts.
This unusual move has captured international attention, as reported by TMZ and confirmed by Simpson’s longtime attorney and executor, Malcolm LaVergne.
Simpson, who passed away in April 2024 after a battle with cancer, left behind a significant financial burden.
The debts stem from a $33.5 million judgment related to a 1997 wrongful death lawsuit, which, with accrued interest, has reportedly ballooned to approximately $100 million.
LaVergne disclosed that the auction of Simpson's prison pornography stash is planned for early 2025, although specific details remain unfinalized.
"We are exploring all avenues to address the outstanding debts," LaVergne stated, emphasizing the necessity of these measures given the enormity of the financial obligations.
The collection, amassed during Simpson's 2008 prison sentence in Nevada, includes explicit magazines that he and fellow inmates were permitted to read. Despite his release in 2017, Simpson retained the collection, which is now poised to become a focal point in efforts to mitigate his estate's liabilities.
In addition to the auction, LaVergne is also working on selling one of Simpson’s properties, though he acknowledges that these efforts will only make a small dent in the overall debt.
