NSCDC Launches Major Operation Against Illegal Petroleum Activities, Arrests Seven Suspects in Rivers State


The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested seven suspects involved in illegal oil trade and seized a barge and three boats loaded with Automotive Gasoline (AGO).


Addressing journalists at the scene of the crime near Woji Jetty in Port Harcourt logging area, the state Commander, Joachim Okafor, announced plans to crack down on economic sabotage including pipeline vandalism, illegal supply and transportation of illegally processed products.


OKAFOR has revealed that the two suspects have been arrested in connection with illegally sophisticated and sophisticated stains.


The suspect moved the product from the barge to the cellophane bag and was involved in a private destination for transportation.


The statement said five other suspects were apprehended by a Navy detachment along the Tombia-Iwofe axis along the waterways, adding that preliminary reports indicate that they were arrested with three boats loaded with an unspecified number of litres of AGO.


In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Ayodele, the NSCDC stressed that its continued crackdown on crude oil theft is driven by its commitment to combating illegal bunkering in coastal areas and increasing oil production in the country.


The statement also said "a thorough investigation will be conducted to identify those behind the fraudulent activities" and that "the suspects will be produced before the competent courts."
