Nigeria's Defence Headquarters announced an important breakthrough in their ongoing counter-insurgency efforts with the capture of Abubakar Bawa Ibrahim, widely known as Habu Dogo.
This notorious terrorist leader was apprehended during a strategic military operation in Rumji Village, IIlela Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the arrest, stating, "Habu Dogo, wanted in both Nigeria and Niger for cross-border terrorism, has been responsible for orchestrating numerous attacks and kidnappings, particularly in Sokoto State."
His capture marks a pivotal victory for the Nigerian Armed Forces in their fight against terrorism.
The operation is part of a broader anti-terror campaign that has seen the neutralization of 187 terrorists and the arrest of 311 suspects across the country.
In addition to Habu Dogo, high-profile arrests included leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Southeast Nigeria.
These efforts have also led to the rescue of hostages and the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition.
In the Niger Delta, security forces thwarted oil theft attempts valued at approximately N1.25 billion by dismantling 98 illegal refining sites and seizing over a million liters of stolen crude oil.
Meanwhile, operations in North East Nigeria resulted in the neutralization of 103 terrorists and the arrest of 64 suspects.
