The Northern regions of Nigeria, including Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Benue, Katsina, Taraba, Gombe, and parts of Borno and Nasarawa, experienced a significant power outage that left them without electricity.
This extensive blackout was due to another breakdown in the National Grid, marking the fourth incident within a period of less than two weeks.
The persistent instability of Nigeria's power infrastructure has become a pressing concern.
President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo has expressed his frustration over the situation, stating, "The present overwhelming widespread darkness being experienced in about 11 Northern States is nothing but a global embarrassment."
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare an emergency in the power sector to address these recurring issues.
While the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Transmission Company of Nigeria previously attributed a grid collapse to an explosion at the Jebba transmission station, the cause of this latest outage remains unconfirmed.
