No Regret Supporting Tinubu – Wike Insists

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike in a recent address at a thanksgiving service held in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State reiterated his steadfast support for President Bola Tinubu.

Despite facing considerable pressure and threats prior to the 2023 general elections, Wike, who served as the governor of Rivers State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for eight years, made it clear that he has "no regrets" about his decision to back Tinubu, who leads the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike's political journey took a notable turn when President Tinubu appointed him as the FCT Minister, a move that underlined the complex interplay between Nigeria's major political parties.

Reflecting on this transition, Wike expressed gratitude towards President Tinubu, stating, "We must thank Mr President, if he did not give us this opportunity, we wouldn’t have known." This appointment marked a significant shift from his previous affiliation with the PDP, highlighting the fluid nature of political alliances in Nigeria.

During his speech, Wike addressed allegations of land grabbing in the Federal Capital Territory, dismissing them as unfounded. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that government lands are used appropriately, warning that those holding such lands illegally would face revocation.

"I am in charge of lands in Abuja, how will I go and grab what I am in charge of," he remarked, underlining his dedication to upholding the law and maintaining order in land management.

The thanksgiving service, organized by the PDP, served as a platform for Wike to reflect on his political decisions and the broader implications of his support for Tinubu.

He acknowledged the challenges of governance and the necessity of making difficult choices, particularly in a political landscape characterized by intense rivalry and shifting loyalties. "I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing," Wike asserted, reaffirming his allegiance to Tinubu and his policies.
