No Ransom Paid to Repentant Bandits, Says Governor Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has firmly denied allegations that the state government paid bandits to surrender their arms.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Governor Sani emphasized, "We did not give them one naira," dismissing any claims of financial transactions with the bandits.

The governor's statement comes in the wake of the state government's reception of a group of repentant bandits in Birnin-Gwari, a region plagued by insecurity for over a decade.

This event also marked the reopening of a cattle market that had been closed due to persistent threats from banditry and kidnapping.

Governor Sani clarified that the peace process, which took nearly six months, was achieved through strategic collaboration with federal security agencies and the office of the National Security Adviser.

He noted, "It is a process that took almost six months precisely to reach this position," highlighting the collective effort involved in brokering peace without resorting to financial incentives.
