"No Plans for Census in 2025" — NPC Clarifies

The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially denied rumors circulating about plans to conduct a national census in 2025. This clarification comes amidst widespread speculation and public discourse regarding the timing of the next population count.

In a statement released on Friday, the NPC emphasized that no official decision has been made concerning the scheduling of the next census. "We want to categorically state that there are currently no plans to hold a census in 2025," an NPC spokesperson declared. "Any information suggesting otherwise is purely speculative and not based on any formal announcement from the Commission."

The rumors appear to have gained traction following recent discussions in various media outlets and social platforms, which suggested that preparations for a 2025 census were underway. However, the NPC has urged the public to disregard such claims until an official communication is issued.

The last national census in Nigeria was conducted in 2006, and since then, there have been calls for a new count to address demographic changes and aid in national planning. Despite these calls, the NPC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that any future census is meticulously planned and executed, taking into account logistical challenges and the need for accurate data collection.

The NPC's denial aims to quell any misinformation and assure citizens that they will be duly informed of any developments regarding the national census. "We are committed to transparency and will communicate any updates through the appropriate channels," the spokesperson added.
