No Immediate Solution to Regular Power Supply - Tinubu

During a recent visit by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation's ongoing electricity challenges, cautioning citizens against expecting immediate solutions.

Speaking candidly about the state of Nigeria's power infrastructure, President Tinubu emphasized the need for patience and strategic reforms to achieve sustainable improvements.

In his remarks, President Tinubu acknowledged the persistent issues of unreliable power supply and frequent grid collapses that have plagued the country.

He noted that despite Siemens Energy's active involvement in addressing these challenges, significant progress would require time due to the outdated nature of existing infrastructure. "Nigeria, being a nation in a hurry, wants a magical response," Tinubu stated. "But don’t forget, those transmission lines are about 50 to 60 years old."

The President outlined several key initiatives aimed at transforming Nigeria's energy landscape. These include decentralizing power distribution to allow states and subnational entities to generate and distribute their own power. Additionally, he highlighted efforts to promote alternative energy sources, such as solar power, and the utilization of underused dams for rural electrification.

"We have German businesses who are promoting alternative sources of energy, and they are here. We have the sun; they have the technology," Tinubu explained.
