The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced a significant achievement in its crude oil production, reaching a daily output of 1.8 million barrels as of Thursday, November 14 .
This milestone marks a crucial step towards meeting the ambitious target set by President Bola Tinubu to produce two million barrels per day by December 2024.
In a statement released on Thursday, NNPCL emphasized the importance of this accomplishment, noting that it "reflects the dedication of all our teams over the past weeks."
The company also highlighted an increase in gas production, now at 7.4 million standard cubic feet, up from 6.1 mmscf earlier in the year.
This boost is intended to support critical infrastructure projects like the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline.
Despite these advancements, NNPCL faces several challenges, including issues related to fuel pricing, theft, and attacks on its operations. These are seen as potential distractions from ongoing reforms and threats to the economic goals set by President Tinubu.
Arewa Youths have described such attacks as a "distraction from reforms" and a "threat to Tinubu’s economic goals."
