A 21-year-old Nigerian man, identified as Mr. John, was arrested by the Thai Tourist Police on charges of offering sexual services through an online platform.
The arrest took place on December 11, near Thephasadin Stadium in Bangkok's Pathum Wan district.
According to reports, Mr. John allegedly advertised his services at a rate of 12,000 baht. Acting on intelligence received, Thai authorities orchestrated a sting operation using an undercover agent who contacted Mr. John via the Line messaging app.
The meeting was arranged at the stadium, where the transaction was discreetly monitored by law enforcement officials. Upon completion of the payment, officers swiftly moved in to apprehend Mr. John, seizing his mobile phone, which reportedly contained incriminating evidence of the illicit discussions.
During questioning, facilitated by an English-speaking interpreter, Mr. John admitted to engaging in the online solicitation of sexual services.
He claimed this was a side venture intended to supplement his finances while visiting Thailand. "I came here as a tourist," he stated, revealing that he had entered the country through Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 21, with a visa valid until December 19.
The Thai police have charged Mr. John with offenses related to soliciting prostitution and have remanded him to the Pathum Wan police station. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether he acted independently or as part of a larger network.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities as they continue efforts to curb illegal operations that could tarnish Thailand's reputation.
