Nigerian Customs Seizes Contraband Worth N229.1m in Ogun State


The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Ogun Area 1 Command has successfully intercepted illegal goods valued at N229.1 million.


This significant seizure was announced by the newly appointed Area Comptroller, Mr. Ahmadu Shuaibu, during a press conference held on Thursday in Idiroko, Ogun State.


The week-long operation, which concluded recently, was characterized by strategic intelligence gathering and surveillance, coupled with collaboration from patriotic citizens.


The seized contraband includes a wide array of items: 2,169 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 1,128 parcels of cannabis, 21 bales of used clothing, 166 pneumatic tires, 4,360 cartons of imported shoes, 250 kegs of premium motor spirit (PMS), 20 vehicles used for smuggling, and a 2012 model Toyota Highlander SUV.


Mr. Shuaibu emphasized the critical nature of these operations, stating, "Our operatives remain resolute in dismantling the smuggling networks that undermine our economy, endanger lives, and hinder local industries."


He further noted that the seizures were made at several strategic locations known for smuggling activities, including Idi-Iroko, Ilaro, All-around Axis, Obada Oko, Abule Kazeem-Abeokuta Axis, and Imeko-Afon.
