Nigerian Artist Tems Admits to Copying Lil Wayne's Style in Early Career [Video]

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has confessed her admiration for American rap icon Lil Wayne.

During an interview on 'The Cruz Show' aired on Real 92.3 FM, Tems disclosed that she used to mimic Lil Wayne when she was younger. She expressed her deep love for hip-hop, stating, "Hip-hop is my thing. I used to pretend to be a rapper. I love Lil Wayne as well. I used to pretend to be Lil Wayne when I was younger."

Tems shared that her journey into rap music was hugely influenced by her older brother, who introduced her to the genre. She fondly recalled some of her favorite Lil Wayne tracks, including "Mrs. Officer," "Mr. Carter," "Comfortable," and "Hustle Music." Despite not having met Lil Wayne yet, Tems expressed her eagerness to meet him, saying, "I want to meet him so bad. Very soon I know I’m going to meet him."

Her passion for hip-hop is evident in her debut album "Born In The Wild," where she explored rap with tracks like "T Unit" and collaborated with Grammy-winning rapper J Cole on "Free Fall."
