The Nigerian Army has successfully neutralized scores of Lakurawa bandits and dismantled 22 of their camps across Sokoto and Kebbi states.
This achievement was part of Operation Fansan Yamma, aimed at eradicating the threat posed by these notorious bandits.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, disclosed the details of the operation to newsmen on Friday in Sokoto.
Speaking through Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, the acting General Officer Commanding the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Soyele emphasized the strategic deployment of a special brigade by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to execute this mission.
"The successes recorded are a result of fresh onslaughts launched against the Lakurawa bandits," stated Soyele. "Our troops have been selected and trained for this mission, and Nigerians are counting on their ability and professionalism to flush out the Lakurawas."
The operation, dubbed "FOREST SANITY III CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT," aims to consolidate previous successes and ensure the total elimination of the Lakurawa sects in the region.
Soyele urged the troops to adhere strictly to the rules of engagement while ensuring the protection of law-abiding citizens' lives and property.
