Nigeria Faces Escalating Cyber Threats, Calls for Global Cooperation

Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has raised significant concerns over the increasing cyber threats targeting the country's critical national infrastructures.

These threats are not only a domestic issue but have implications that resonate globally, affecting telecommunications systems, banking platforms, power and energy grids, military networks, transportation systems, national databases, and digital systems crucial for elections.

During a workshop organized by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre, Ribadu emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "Any failure or disruption to the operation of these critical assets can significantly impact our security, national public health and safety, and Nigerians’ social and economic well-being."

He highlighted that the threats include online financial scams, defacement of government websites, breaches of sensitive personal data, and the compromise of confidential government communications.

Ribadu's call to action is clear: there is an urgent need for all stakeholders, both within Nigeria and internationally, to collaborate in addressing these escalating cyber challenges.

"We are now confronted with heightened threats of attacks," he noted, urging for enhanced cybersecurity measures and cooperation across sectors to safeguard these vital assets from potential attacks.
