Nigeria Custom Intercepts 21 Luxury Vehicles Stolen from Canada in Lagos and Rivers Ports [PICTURES]

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 21 luxury vehicles stolen from Canada, valued at several billions of naira.

This operation was announced by the Comptroller General of the NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

The vehicles, which include high-end models such as Toyota Highlanders, Mercedes-Benz G550, Range Rover Sport, and Lamborghini Huracan, were seized at strategic locations including Lekki, Tin-Can Island in Lagos, and Onne Port in Rivers State.

Addressing journalists during the handover of the seized vehicles, Adeniyi highlighted the growing concern that West Africa, particularly Nigeria, is becoming a major hub for stolen vehicles. "Over the past several months, we have intensified our operations against vehicle trafficking syndicates operating within our borders," he stated.

According to INTERPOL reports, this illicit trade network extends from Europe and North America to as far as South America and Australia.

The interception of these vehicles not only shows the sophistication of the criminal networks involved but also poses a significant threat to Nigeria's legitimate automotive market and security infrastructure.

Adeniyi emphasized the need for enhanced border control and international cooperation to combat such transnational crimes effectively. "The growing incidence of stolen vehicles finding their way into our region has become a matter of serious concern," he noted, urging for stronger regulatory frameworks to address these challenges.
