The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has successfully secured the conviction of 12 drug peddlers.
This development was announced by the agency's spokesman, Sadiq Maigatari, on Saturday, December 14, marking a pivotal moment in the agency's ongoing battle against illicit drug activities.
The convictions were achieved under the leadership of Commander Abubakar Ahmad, who has been instrumental in steering the agency's efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks, particularly at the notorious Filin Idi drug den.
"This landmark conviction serves as a robust deterrent to drug traffickers exploiting the Filin Idi area for their illicit operations," stated Maigatari.
Each of the convicted individuals received a three-year prison sentence without the option of a fine, showing the gravity of their offenses. Among them, Lawan Sani was handed an additional two-year sentence, totaling five years, following a 10-month manhunt after he attacked an NDLEA officer.
"One of the drug peddlers, Lawan Sani, was convicted following a 10-month manhunt that ensued after attacking an NDLEA officer; he was given an additional two-year sentence, totalling five years of imprisonment," Maigatari elaborated.
The NDLEA's actions reflect its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. The agency continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to illicit drug activity. "Together, we can foster a safer and healthier environment for all residents of Kano State," Maigatari added.
