In a significant enforcement action, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has successfully uncovered an illegal production site for counterfeit alcoholic beverages located on Offin Road, Balogun, Lagos Island.
This discovery was made following a complaint that prompted NAFDAC to investigate the premises. Upon arrival, the team found a shop that had been repurposed into a facility for producing and packaging fake alcoholic drinks.
The operation led to the destruction of assorted bottles of counterfeit products on-site. Additionally, packaging materials, empty bottles, and repackaged drinks were confiscated.
The estimated value of the destroyed and seized items exceeds ₦30 million, highlighting the scale of the illegal operation. NAFDAC has initiated further investigations to trace the origins and distribution networks of these counterfeit products.
This action highlights NAFDAC's dedication to protecting public health by ensuring that market consumables are safe and genuine.
The agency recommends that consumers buy alcoholic beverages only from trusted vendors and report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
This incident also stresses the importance of cooperation between regulatory bodies and the public in fighting the spread of counterfeit goods.
