The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in a massive crackdown on counterfeit pharmaceuticals has seized fake medicines valued at over ₦300 million during a raid in Lagos State.
This operation was conducted by NAFDAC's Investigation and Enforcement team at Tyre Village, located within the Trade Fair Complex. The agency's statement, released on Thursday, highlighted the discovery of counterfeit drugs including Amoxicillin 500mg, Ampicloxa capsules 500mg, and packaging materials for Augmentin capsules 625mg.
The raid not only led to the confiscation of these dangerous pharmaceuticals but also resulted in the facility being placed on hold, with all illegal products evacuated.
NAFDAC emphasized the severe health risks posed by these counterfeit medicines, which include treatment failure, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to their unknown compositions. A suspect linked to the operation has been invited for questioning as investigations continue.
NAFDAC has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office. This decisive action signifies the agency's commitment to safeguarding public health and combating the proliferation of fake drugs in Nigeria.
