Flamboyant Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega, who is based in the United Kingdom, has revealed that his lifestyle is entirely funded by his partner, Mary Olubukola Alade. The founder of the now-defunct Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church, commonly known as SPAC Nation, stated that he does not receive any salary from the church.
Adegboyega, who has been embroiled in a legal battle with UK immigration authorities, explained to judges Bruce and Rastogi that his wife, Mary, earns £100,000 annually working for AON. "I live with my partner, Mary Olubukola Alade, who earns £100,000 per year working for AON. I spend my time working for the church, for which I am unpaid. I am entirely supported by Mary," he said.
The pastor, who arrived in the UK on a visitor’s visa in 2005, lost his immigration battle as the UK Tribunal ordered his deportation back to Nigeria. The court noted that Adegboyega had overstayed his visa and sought to remain in the country on human rights grounds.
Despite the controversies surrounding him, Adegboyega insists that his extravagant lifestyle serves a purpose. "For instance, people have pointed to the fact that he wears designer clothing and drives expensive cars. He was adamant that all of his personal possessions had been paid for by Mary," the court heard. Adegboyega emphasized, "He has never taken a penny from the church. He believes that it is important for him to dress the way that he does because he needs to inspire these young people – they need to understand that there are legitimate ways of making money, for instance through entrepreneurship."
The pastor's statements come amid ongoing scrutiny over his financial dealings and the operations of SPAC Nation, which was shut down by the UK government in June 2022 due to financial irregularities.
