My Father Was First Person to Connect Nigeria to Internet – Eldee Says [Video]

Nigerian rapper and veteran singer, Lanre Dabiri, popularly known as Eldee The Don, has made a major claim regarding the history of internet connectivity in Nigeria.

In recent interview, Eldee has asserted that his late father was a pioneering figure in bringing the internet to Nigeria. This revelation sheds light on the early days of internet access in the country and highlights the contributions of individuals who played crucial roles in this technological advancement.

Eldee's father, whose name is not widely recognized in public discussions about Nigeria's internet history, was reportedly instrumental in setting up the first cyber cafe in Lagos.

According to Eldee, his father's work extended beyond just establishing cyber cafes; he was also responsible for providing internet services to major oil firms and government agencies, including Mobil and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Eldee emphasized that his father's efforts laid the foundation for internet access in Nigeria, facilitating crucial connections that were essential for the country's digital growth.

In an exclusive interview with Jahbless, a podcast hosted by Nigerian musician and entrepreneur Olatunde Owoloye, Eldee elaborated on his father's role in introducing the internet to Nigeria.

He stated, "My dad was the person that brought the internet, the very first person that brought the internet to Nigeria. So, he set up pretty much everyone; all the companies and all the first cybercafes that you know. All of those connections come through Popsie."

Despite his father's pivotal contributions, Eldee noted that his father was not someone who sought public recognition for his work. "He just wasn't that guy who wanted to put his name out there," Eldee remarked. This lack of public acknowledgment has led to debates and discussions about the true pioneers of internet connectivity in Nigeria, with many people unaware of his father's pivotal role.
