A tragic incident unfolded in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria, when an enraged mob set two state government revenue agents on fire.
This violent act was in response to a fatal accident that occurred on Old Market Road.
The chaos began when a tipper driver, pursued by the agents over a payment dispute, lost control of his vehicle during a struggle with them. This resulted in the death of an innocent bystander.
Eyewitnesses reported that the revenue agents, numbering about six, were aggressively chasing the driver, demanding a certain amount of money.
In the ensuing struggle, some agents reportedly grabbed the steering wheel, causing the driver to lose control and fatally hit a passerby.
A witness described the scene, saying, “There was chaos in Onitsha this morning as angry mob set ablaze two revenue touts, while four others were lucky as they managed to escape.”
