A Nigerian policeman initially reported dead during the #EndBadGovernance protests has miraculously survived, though he remains in critical condition.
The announcement was made by Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi on Saturday, 2024.
The nationwide protests, which began as a response to economic hardship, have seen serious unrest. According to Adejobi, "Nine police officers sustained various degrees of injuries during the protests."
Additionally, a staggering 681 suspects have been arrested for violent crimes across several states, including Abuja, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Nasarawa and Sokoto.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had earlier described the events as a "mass uprising and looting, not protests," highlighting the severity of the situation. In light of the ongoing unrest, the Nigeria Police Force has placed all units on red alert, fully mobilizing officers to ensure public safety and order.
The #EndBadGovernance protests, now in their third day, were initiated by youths demanding that President Bola Tinubu address their concerns. Despite the government's efforts to quell the unrest, the protests show no signs of abating.
