Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has issued a stern ultimatum to state workers amidst an ongoing labor dispute. The governor declared that employees who fail to report to work within 72 hours would face dismissal and replacement.
This announcement came in response to a seven-day warning strike initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ebonyi State, protesting the non-implementation of a new minimum wage.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized that the state government had approved and begun paying a minimum wage of 75,000 Naira, asserting, "I am not owing you. I am paying you what is supposed to be paid." He further stated, "If you don’t go to work, not only that I will not pay you salary, but I will replace you within 72 hours in your office."
The governor instructed the state chairman of the Civil Service Commission and all commissioners to ensure that government offices were operational and to record attendance for payment purposes.
He warned, "If I don’t see you in your office, consider yourself sacked," underlining his commitment to maintaining government operations despite the strike.
