Mexico's New President Pledges to Stop Migrant Flow to the U.S., Trump Announces

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced on Thursday, November 28, that he has secured a commitment from Mexico's newly inaugurated president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to stop migrants from crossing through Mexico into the United States.

This announcement comes as part of Trump's broader strategy to address illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

Trump, who is preparing to take office in January, stated, "Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border." This agreement is seen as a pivotal step in Trump's plan to curb what he describes as an "illegal invasion" of the U.S.

Sheinbaum Pardo, who made history as Mexico's first female president, confirmed the discussions in a social media post.

She emphasized Mexico's efforts to manage migrant caravans, stating, "We discussed Mexico’s strategy on the migration phenomenon and I shared that caravans are not arriving at the northern border because they are being taken care of in Mexico."

The dialogue between the two leaders also touched on the issue of illegal drugs entering the U.S. from Mexico. Trump noted, "We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs."
