Mexican Football Referee Dismissed for Failing to Show Up to Officiate a March after He was Assaulted by a Sex Worker He Hired

Mexican football referee Rosario Guadalupe Cardenas has been dismissed from his duties following an incident that prevented him from officiating a crucial match.

The Mexican refereeing commission confirmed the sacking after an internal investigation revealed that Cardenas was unable to attend the match due to injuries sustained in an assault by a sex worker he had hired.

The incident occurred during the Apertura Tournament, where Cardenas was scheduled to serve as the fourth official in a match between Monterrey and Tigres.

Initially, the refereeing commission cited a "medical reason" for his absence. However, former international referee Francisco Chacon later disclosed that Cardenas had been drugged and assaulted by the companion he had brought to his hotel the night before the game.

"It turns out that Mr. Rosario Cardenas decided to hire a companion one day before the game," Chacon stated, adding that this led to the unfortunate series of events.

Following the revelation, the Mexican refereeing commission conducted a thorough investigation, which concluded with Cardenas' termination on December 4.

The commission's statement emphasized the need for transparency and adherence to professional standards, noting that Cardenas' actions violated the ethical and professional values upheld by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).

A source close to the FMF indicated that the matter is still under legal review to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"We were informed that this matter went through the FMF's legal department, which violated the internal regulations and the ethical and professional values of the FMF," the source explained.
