The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has officially suspended its 7-day nationwide warning strike.
This decision came after successful negotiations with the Federal Government, which addressed several of the union's pressing concerns.
The announcement was made by the National Executive Council (NEC) of MDCAN during an extraordinary virtual meeting held to evaluate the progress of discussions with government officials.
In a communique issued in Jos, Plateau State, MDCAN expressed appreciation for the efforts of various governmental bodies, including the Ministries of Health, Social Welfare, Education, Labour Employment and Productivity, as well as the National Assembly.
These entities played significant roles in the reconciliation process aimed at improving the welfare of MDCAN members.
The union stated, "We commend the Federal Government for acceding to our demands and appreciate the leadership of the National Assembly and other stakeholders for their ongoing reconciliation efforts."
President Bola Tinubu was particularly lauded for his prompt intervention in resolving a crisis at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where the governing council was dissolved due to the illegal appointment of an unqualified vice-chancellor.
MDCAN noted, "We commend President Bola Tinubu for his timely intervention and commitment to restoring respect for the rule of law, due process, and orderliness."
