Mass Shooting in South Africa Leaves 17 People Dead

In an incident that has shocked the nation, 17 people were shot dead in Lusikisiki, a town in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.


The mass shooting occurred on Friday night, September 27th, 2024, and has left the community reeling. According to South African police, the victims were found across two houses. In one house, 13 people 12 women and one man were killed, while four others were shot dead in another location. An 18th victim is currently in critical condition at a hospital.


The police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, but as of now, "the motive" remains unknown, and it is unclear if there are "one or several suspects on the run," stated national police chief Fannie Masemola on SABC public television.
