Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) clarified that married women do not need to provide their husband's passport when renewing their own.
This statement comes after reports surfaced of immigration officers mistakenly requesting husbands' passport pages from women seeking renewals
The NIS emphasized, "There is no requirement for a married Nigerian woman to attach her husband's passport page or proof of his identity in order to renew her passport."
The official policy focuses on the individual's identity documents, ensuring that the renewal process remains straightforward and based solely on personal identification.
However, the NIS noted exceptions for women who are changing their surname due to marriage or divorce.
In these cases, additional documentation, such as the husband's passport data page or National Identification Number (NIN) slip, may be required.
