LP Chair Abure Urges Peter Obi, Alex Otti, Dissatisfied Members to Come Back

Julius Abure, the National Chairman of Nigeria's Labour Party (LP), has made a public appeal to the party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, along with other discontented members, urging them to return to the party.

This plea comes amidst internal conflicts within the party, particularly following Abure's controversial reelection at the Nnewi convention, which some party stakeholders claimed was not inclusive.

In response to these grievances, a 29-member caretaker committee was established in July, led by former finance minister Nnenadi Usman, to organize an expanded election for new executives across various levels.

Despite these challenges, Abure's position as the legitimate national chairman was reaffirmed by a Federal High Court in Abuja. He has since been actively working to mend relations with the aggrieved party leaders. In an interview on Saturday, Abure stated, "I want to say there is no more crisis in the party. The court has said there is only one leader in LP."

He emphasized the importance of unity within the party, expressing forgiveness towards those who felt wronged and highlighting the need for electoral reform to ensure the election of leaders with integrity.

Abure also addressed the broader socio-economic issues facing Nigeria, noting that the hardships experienced by the populace cannot be solely attributed to leadership failures. He called for a collective reflection on the country's challenges, advocating for a change in mindset and philosophy to drive meaningful development.
