The Lakurawa armed group has been forced to retreat from their positions in Kebbi State, Nigeria, following an intensified military campaign by Nigerian troops.
This operation comes in response to a brutal attack by the group on the Mera community in Augie Local Government Area, which tragically resulted in 17 fatalities.
The Nigerian military, responding to an urgent appeal from Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, launched a coordinated ground and air offensive targeting the group's camps across Kebbi and Sokoto states.
Abdullahi Idris Zuru, media aide to the governor, confirmed that upon arrival in Birnin Kebbi, the troops met with Deputy Governor Abubakar Umar Tafida before proceeding to Mera.
"The troops succeeded in dislodging the bandits and recovering several rustled cattle left behind as the attackers fled," Zuru stated.
This decisive action underscores the Nigerian government's commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu assured that the Lakurawa group would be "flushed out of Nigeria," emphasizing the federal government's resolve to eradicate such threats.
