Lagos Governor's Attempt to Avoid EFCC Arrest Dismissed by Court

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's attempt to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting him after his tenure has been dismissed.

The case, identified as FHC/ABJ/CS/773/2024, was struck out by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

This decision came after Sanwo-Olu's lawyer, Gbenga Femi Akande, moved for the discontinuance of the case.

The governor had initially filed the suit to secure 11 reliefs, including an order to restrain the EFCC from "harassing, intimidating, arresting, detaining, interrogating or prosecuting" him in connection with his time as governor.

However, the EFCC countered these claims, describing them as "speculative." The anti-corruption agency stated that it had not taken any steps to infringe upon Sanwo-Olu's rights, emphasizing that there were no threats or actions against him.

Justice Abdulmalik had previously scheduled the matter for further mention on Tuesday, November 26, but it was not listed on the cause list, and no representative for the governor appeared in court.

The case was ultimately withdrawn on October 31, following the EFCC's submission that they had not received the fresh originating summons.
