Labour Ministry's Role is Policy, Not Job Creation, Says Minister

At the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja, Nigeria's Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, clarified the role of his ministry.

He emphasized that while the ministry does not directly create jobs, it plays a pivotal role in facilitating job creation through strategic policies and investments.

Dingyadi stated, "You will agree with me that the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment is never to give employment to people.

Our role is to foster job creation through strategic policies and investments." This statement underscores the ministry's focus on creating an environment conducive to job growth rather than directly providing employment.

The minister highlighted the administration's commitment to economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

These reforms are designed to tackle challenges such as Nigeria's large youth population by promoting infrastructural and human capital development.

Key initiatives include negotiating a new minimum wage and enhancing economic policies to stimulate growth.

Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, also addressed the audience, assuring them that despite current economic hardships, the administration's efforts are beginning to yield positive results.

The emphasis remains on structured policy implementation to gradually improve Nigeria's employment landscape and economic stability.
