The Kano State government has uncovered a ₦1.5 billion fraud within its foreign scholarship scheme, initially designed to support postgraduate students pursuing master's degrees abroad.
The initiative, launched by Governor Abba Yusuf, aimed to sponsor 1,001 students to study in India and Uganda. However, discrepancies have emerged, revealing that only 418 students were actually sent overseas, raising serious questions about the fate of the remaining candidates.

Kabiru, the commission’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the ongoing probe, stating, "Preliminary investigations uncovered fraudulent activities at the office of the Ministry for High Education over the postgraduate students to pursue their master’s degrees in India and Uganda."
The investigation seeks to identify and prosecute those responsible for the alleged scam, with Kabiru emphasizing, "We opened an investigation to find out the truth of the matter. Whoever is found to have been involved, will be prosecuted, no matter how highly placed."
