The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in possession of counterfeit foreign currencies valued at over N100billion.

The suspects, identified as Muhammad Abdullahi, Muhammad Muktahr, and Nura Ibrahim, were found with fake notes amounting to $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000 and N1,443,000, along with live ammunition.

Chief Superintendent of Police, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who paraded the suspects before the press, stated, "The suspects confessed to the crime but refused to disclose the source or where the fake currencies were printed." Despite their admission, the origins of the counterfeit money remain unclear. One suspect, Nura Ibrahim, claimed that the fake currencies originated from Lagos, while another, Muhammad Muktahr, alleged he was coerced into participating in the crime.

This operation is part of a broader effort by the Kano State Police Command to combat various criminal activities. Between November 25th and December 9th, 2024, the Command arrested 62 suspects involved in crimes ranging from armed robbery and cattle rustling to kidnapping and drug dealing. During this period, the police also rescued two kidnap victims and ten human trafficking victims.

CSP Kiyawa emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating, "As a result of the multifaceted approach adopted by the Command, Kano State has indeed become a safer and more secure place for all. However, we acknowledge that there is still work to be done as we must sustain the tempo."
