Malam Aminu Umar Kofar Mazugal, a civil servant from Dala Local Government Area, has returned over N40 million in misplaced U.S. dollars to its rightful owner.
The incident occurred at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano, where the money was accidentally left behind by Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed.
According to reports, Alhaji Mohammed had placed the bag containing the substantial sum near a mosque within the hospital premises before rushing off to catch a flight. It was during this time that Aminu Umar, who was working with colleagues to clear the pavements, discovered the unattended bag. Upon realizing the situation, Umar did not hesitate to act with honesty.
"After about an hour, the owner returned to inquire about the bag, and I promptly returned it to him," Umar recounted.
Despite being offered a reward for his commendable action, Umar declined, although he did provide his phone number, with the owner promising to contact him upon returning from abroad. Dr. Aminu Imam Yola, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, confirmed the incident and praised Umar's actions.
"The hospital management has submitted Aminu’s name to the Kano State Hospitals Management Board for special recognition," Dr. Yola stated, underscoring the importance of such acts of integrity in the community.
