Kano Governor Slams Predecessor for 18-Month Immunization Lapse, Vows Swift Action

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has publicly criticized his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, for neglecting routine immunization services in Kano State for a period of 18 months.

This accusation was made during the launch of the second phase of the 2024 Maternal and Neonatal Health Week.

Governor Yusuf, speaking through his spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, emphasized the urgency of restoring these essential health services. "As you all know, health is our second priority after education.

Within this sector, we are focusing on maternal and child health to prevent the avoidable loss of lives among pregnant women and their children," he stated.

In response to the alleged neglect, Governor Yusuf has ordered the immediate reinstatement of immunization programs and assured that both state and federal funding will be consistently provided to sustain these efforts.

The governor's administration has also structured the 2024 state budget to include robust provisions for immunization services, ensuring they remain accessible to all residents.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance health and infrastructure in Kano, which includes ongoing projects such as dam rehabilitation and road construction.
